The Skyline Trojans (6-2) earned their second baseball series sweep of the young season, traveling north to take three straight games at Shasta College (2-7). The series concluded with an extra-inning thriller Saturday, as Skyline rallied for three runs in the top of the 10th to secure the win.
Jackson Howard
Freshman shortstop Jackson Howard stepped to the plate to lead off the 10th batting 1 for 9 in the series, but connected for his first collegiate home run, a solo shot, to give the Trojans the lead. A 2024 Burlingame graduate, Howard didn’t record a home run through four years of high school throughout freshman, junior-varsity and varsity ball.
After a Trey Johnson double and an intentional walk to Nick Tobin, freshman Brayden Smith followed with an RBI double. Sophomore Vinny Smith capped the rally by getting hit with a pitch with the bases loaded to force home Tobin.
Sophomore right-hander Luca Dickinson closed out the day with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Shasta reliever Brady Kennedy soldiered through four innings to take the loss, surrendering three runs on six hits.
Johnson enjoyed a big day, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.
Skyline won Friday in comeback fashion 7-6, with sophomore left-hander Steven Dalton working 3 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win. The Trojans tied in in the seventh on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by Johnson, and took the lead in the eighth when Tobin scored on a wild pitch.
