The 62-year-old Redwood City resident was crossing the street at the intersection of El Camino Real and 17th Avenue when a female driver turned north from Bovet Road onto South El Camino Real and hit Vasquez.
One source said the woman was a cleaning lady who took the bus to each job and had previously commented on the risky intersection.Â
The intersection has a marked crosswalk, pedestrian signals and signage reminding drivers to yield to pedestrians, though some have repeatedly stated that those measures are not enough. Making improvements to the intersection is difficult, since El Camino Real is under Caltrans, or state, jurisdiction, not the city’s.
