Nearly all of the stations have been shuttered for years. Do they mean the trains would no longer make certain stops? I don’t see how that would save much money. In fact, it would likely be a net loss a net loss as ridership would diminish. Perhaps they should not have invested $2.5 billion on electrification while they were losing money. That’s no way to run a railroad.
Maybe our sports teams should chip in. They all rely on Caltrain to fill their seats and, with the prices they charge, they can afford it.
There should not be a regional tax measure. Since the State has passed so many housing bills (to eliminate parking) it should fund public transit. State and Federal government love creating unfunded mandates on Cities and Counties who are already struggling to cover existing costs.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Donnelly. I’d recommend everyone call Caltrain’s bluff, especially since Caltrain continued operating at 100% capacity with 50% or less ridership during the COVID years, benefiting only union transportation workers. While of course, also blowing $2.5 billion on electrification, again benefiting union labor. Vote NO on any tax measures.
