Editor,
Congratulations to Bay Area Air District board members, for their courage in adopting clean air regulations for water heaters and furnaces.
When these regulations were approved in 2023, 20 of 24 members of the board — elected city councilmembers, mayors and members of the Board of Supervisors — wisely voted yes. There was not one no vote.
This created one of the best steps the public can take for an immediate, personal response to the climate crisis, by replacing dirty methane gas fired equipment when it fails.
And congratulations to all those residents and businesses deeply concerned about the capability of some families and property owners to pay for replacing their water heaters and furnaces. I know that so many are assisting with education on the availability of rebates and otherwise making affordable resources available. I am sure they will keep up that good work.
It has been said that the generous attitude, wealth and abundance of the Bay Area, especially of those on the Peninsula, has created the right conditions for getting rid of unhealthy fossil fuels. This spirit that has already led to a reduction in greenhouse gases, along with creating healthier home environments.
Responding to the climate crisis has not been easy and may become more difficult, but together we can make a huge difference.

Ah, yes. Mr. Whitehair admitting that the green new scam cannot continue without taking money from others, especially lower income folks, to give to those looking to upgrade to electric. Note that most of the folks who can afford the cost of these upgrades are “rich” compared to others. Basically, we have another example of the rich getting richer, on other people’s money. I wonder if Mr. Whitehair, since my friend DK is unable to, can explain why it is okay for folks to take 400+ private jets and who knows how many public jets to fly to a climate conference to lecture folks on reducing carbon emissions while these talk-the-talk but don’t walk-the-walk activists burn carbon to their hearts content.
When even the UN's IPCC has acknowledged that the climate crisis is hyperbole, we get a guy like Whitehair insisting on continuing this hoax. I for one will be buying a healthy inventory of water heaters and should make a bundle on selling them on the black market starting in 2027. Has Mr. Whitehair, and his confused cadre, figured out what to do with tankless water heaters? These devices spew even more inert pollutants into our air.
I was considering trading in my gas HVAC for an electric heat pump that would also provide me with AC. Turns out the electric heat pump would cost between $16K and $23K. The answer was easy, NO! It would take me until the year 2100 to pay for this boondoggle of an idea. BTW - we need more carbon in the atmosphere so our plants can flourish.
