Editor,

According to the San Mateo County elections file, Mr. Irizarry was listed as a member of the American Independent Party from at least 1996 to 2015, and it took years before he changed his registration.

Wait, Ms. Hawley, you’re saying that a person, Mr. Canepa, with no experience whatsoever in assessing, county clerking, and recording is more qualified than someone, Mr. Irizarry, who has been doing that job for what, over a baker’s dozen years? We should not reward Canepa with another taxpayer-funded job in which he has no experience. I can’t recall anything of value that Canepa has achieved, other than wasting taxpayer money.

Why focus on something so silly about Mr. Irizarry unless that's all you have? Many people who wish to register as independent "no party preference" voters make this innocent mistake, which was apparently corrected in this case 11 years ago. My husband even had his registration changed from a party to independent without his knowledge and it took a couple years for him to find out. Are you seriously insinuating that Mr. Irizarry is a segregationist?

I personally appreciate the fact that Mr. Irizarry is politically independent and willing to listen to all sides of the political spectrum. Quite a contrast to partisan hack David Canepa who won't talk to Republicans, has no personal convictions (went from advocating for small businesses to pushing Lockdown 2.0 and "wear a d--n mask" real quick during Covid based on what he thought more politically expedient), and whose only goal is seeking higher office, even one he is in no way qualified for.
