Editor,

Recently, I read an obituary about a famous man named Clarence B. Jones. I was reminded he lived here in Palo Alto while working at Stanford and USF. One of his greatest achievements was co-writing Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream speech.” Many younger people may not know who either of these men were. We were fortunate to have Clarence B. Jones as a part of our fabric in the bay area for many years. He accomplished numerous other notable works in his life.

“Freedom to vote” sounds like such a great idea, but when uninformed, easily confused voters go for someone as uneducated, dishonest and unreliable as Trump, we have a problem. Held up against President Obama, what do we have, - other than a self-absorbed, unschooled liar, with multiple rapes, bankruptcies and failures as his background? Shame on you, gullible Trump voters!

Dear David - you need to bone up on history. All of the mentioned presidents received major headwinds during their terms. Lincoln even suspended habeas corpus to prevent negative news from the front being published. The Roosevelts were both assaulted for their progressive and sometimes thoughtless initiatives. The smiling FDR was mercilessly lampooned in many newspapers. I get it, Trump will never measure up to anyone in your opinion. But, before you attempt to make a point or even try to rewrite history, the least you can do is get the context right.
