Two men have been charged with possessing and offering to sell 20 pounds of methamphetamine in Redwood City after an undercover operation allegedly busted them, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The men, 41-year-old Oakland resident Huber Carilloortiz and 53-year-old Redwood City resident Susano Romeroaguirre, were allegedly caught in an undercover operation put on by the Redwood City Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force.
Carilloortiz and Romeroaguirre allegedly attempted to sell the methamphetamine to officers, who found the drugs in their car in the parking lot of Mi Tienda Market in Redwood City on Tuesday, Wagstaffe said.
Alongside the two felony counts, both Carilloortiz and Romeroaguirre have been charged with a special allegation of possession of more than 10 kilos of methamphetamine, which carries up to 10 years of additional prison time.
Both men have pleaded not guilty and been released on their own recognizance, Wagstaffe said. Preliminary hearing is set for July 27.
