Many thanks to Supervisor Ray Mueller for his common sense approach to the looming local ban on gas fired hot water heaters. His understanding that the benefit of the ban (an anticipated 5% reduction in local nitrogen oxide emissions) is disproportionate to the expense and inconvenience of compliance, is refreshing. Best of all, is Supervisor Mueller’s recognition that the costs that property owners will incur to comply with the ban is tantamount to a levy imposed by a “board that isn’t even directly elected.” Let’s hope that other local leaders follow Supervisors Mueller’s push for a more pragmatic, and flexible, regulation.
