The office of the Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder and Elections oversees critical functions of local government: administering elections, safeguarding vital records and managing a multibillion-dollar property tax system. This role requires technical expertise, impartial judgment and proven administrative experience — not political ambition.
This election presents a clear choice.
Jim Irizarry has served 13 years in this office as assistant assessor-county clerk-recorder and assistant chief elections officer. He is a board certified property tax appraiser with hands-on experience managing 35 elections and 13 assessment rolls, and implemented the state’s first cloud-based assessment roll management system.
In contrast, Jim’s opponent is a career politician cutting short his term on the Board of Supervisors to seek his next office. He is not a certified property appraiser and lacks the specialized knowledge required to oversee a complex tax system. Property assessments affect every resident, making this role too important for on-the-job training.
Equally important is the responsibility of administering elections. The office must operate with strict neutrality to maintain public trust. Jim’s opponent has no experience managing elections, raising concerns about his preparedness. This role demands an unbiased professional, not someone with ongoing political ambition.
