Editor,
The responsibility of the assessor is to lead four departments: county clerk, assessor, recorder, elections AKA CARE.
Assistant Assessor Irizarry has supervised all four departments, specifically the Assessor’s and Elections offices.
The assessor must work with the Board of Supervisors and representatives in Sacramento. Irizarry has worked with the Board of Supervisors as have all his predecessors for funding.
I worked in the Assessor’s Office for over 30 years, retiring in 2020.
From 2013 when he started at CARE, Irizarry learned and mastered the responsibilities and nuances of each office and knows the flaws.
A Daily Journal letter writer brings up a Genentech case that took place between 2000-2005 well before 2013.
The tax roll closed every year, elections have run smoothly, there has been constant communication in various languages with the public, a working relationship has been maintained with the Board of Supervisors and Sacramento, Irizarry has done on the job training to lead CARE.
Jim Irizarry is prepared to be the San Mateo County assessor with no learning curve.
The same writer bemoaned he forgot his political affiliation.
Why does that matter in a non-partisan race?
He is a Democrat like most of Sacramento and all the Board of Supervisors.
Not a selling point to me but, merit qualifies Jim Irizarry.
Jim Irizarry has earned being elected San Mateo County assessor.
In spite of being a Democrat.
