Burlingame School District Superintendent Marla Silversmith shared the news with families in an email Friday. The child was not a student in the school district but in a neighboring district and was on campus in connection with an evening community-based activity by an organization renting the multi-purpose room, according to the Monday statement.
As a precautionary measure, officials immediately secured and temporarily closed all MPRs at every school in the district and is reviewing and evaluating procedures related to the use and rental of district facilities.
McKinley Elementary School Principal Susana Fernandez sent an email to families at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday addressing the presence of a fire truck and ambulance called in response to “an isolated medical incident.”
“I know this situation has been deeply upsetting for many members of our community,” Silversmith said in the Monday message. “Our focus remains on ensuring that our campuses remain safe learning environments for all children while also supporting students, staff, and families with care and compassion.
