You have probably heard that the — appointed but not elected — Bay Area Air Quality Management District is mandating no more gas water heaters be sold in nine Bay Area counties starting Jan. 1, 2027, and gas furnaces in 2029. It will be reviewed again later in the year.
Two members on the BAAQMD Board are San Mateo County supervisors, Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller. Corzo voted “yes” for the ban and Mueller “no,” but the board majority voted “yes.”
My “letter to the editor” on May 27 outlined the catastrophic consequences of the ban on San Mateo entitled “Outrage to the gas ban — ideology vs common sense.”
I am hoping that our City Council views this BAAQMD vote as too extreme, not well thought out and with little public input. This ban will have an extreme negative impact on the people of San Mateo. I value San Mateo, it’s future and the people who live here. I am hoping the City Council will write a letter to the BAAQMD expressing their concerns.
Gary - Thank you for working to help undo this really bad decision. I can't believe the board members who voted yes thought it was a good idea. Maybe that is the problem. They didn't give it much "thought" as to the consequences of it's actual application.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Isoardi. In addition to sending emails, I’d recommend those affected individually or as a group file as many lawsuits as desired to counter this mandated “woke” policy. We all know fossil fuels power the world, as well as the majority of electricity generated to support the green new scam.
