Editor,
A recent letter-writer argued that based on “comparative facts” the JCPOA was better than the current Iran deal (MOU) being negotiated. Nonsense.
First, any deal with Iran isn’t worth a hill of beans. Iran repeatedly breached the JCPOA. They repeatedly breached the current MOU days after signing it. They attack civilian shipping; the Iranian regime’s leaders continually make murderous inflammatory statements. How could there have been an actual meeting of the minds, let alone a belief that an actual deal could ever emerge?
Second the unrelenting belligerent position of the Iranian regime’s leaders isn’t imaginary. Their stated goals of “Death to Israel, Death to America” persist, and they have threatened to attack everyone in sight if Israel continues its attacks on Hizballah in Lebanon. On the other hand, Iran refuses to tell the Lebanese government to disarm Hizballah because “it’s an internal Lebanese matter.” How do you spell hypocrisy?
Third, Iran developed substantial facilities for the development of nuclear weapons. Apparently, most of the money went up in smoke when they were bombed. Yet they wouldn’t include the ending of that program as part of the MOU. No prizes for guessing why not.
Fourth, Iran’s ballistic missile program is highly developed. They hit Israel repeatedly despite its sophisticated missile defense.
So who’s kidding who? If you keep in mind the fact that one nuclear bomb can ruin your whole day, it’s obvious that the mullahs’ quest to build and deliver one must be stopped regardless of the cost.
