Foster City Chinese restaurant Chez Xue has sparked internet debate over children’s behavior in restaurants with an on-menu policy that asks parents to ensure their kids are being respectful and seated — and states that adults will be held financially liable for damages their children cause.

The policy lists specific examples in which customer’s children caused disruption and damage, including the shattering of a credit card reader that a parent had to pay $327 in damages, a broken teacup that cost $5 and a children’s carving into a restaurant table that amounted to $109 charge.

What hasn’t sparked internet debate? His restaurant, his rules. Kudos to Chez Xue for their policy and for holding parents accountable for the acts of their kids. Now if we could expand that policy universally to kids who commit criminal acts. Meanwhile, for those who don’t like Chez Xue’s policy, they can talk with their feet and wallets. And for those who are appreciative of the policy, they can also talk with their feet and wallets and enjoy the restaurant located in Foster City.
