Your reprinting and promotion of Michael Burke’s EdSource article exemplifies the Daily Journal’s irresponsible journalism ethics. You consistently evade unbiased standards, pushing a liberal, progressive, socialist viewpoint that at times dips into Marxist ideology — all at the expense of the public good in the communities your rag serves.
The article deceptively features María (alias Ximena) Anleu Gil, a plant biologist from Guatemala now at UC Davis’ Blake Meyers Lab. It claims “There is one year remaining on the grant that funds her position,” implying Trump administration NIH cuts threaten her livelihood. In truth, her work in plant reproductive development and small RNA biology is not NIH-funded, so she faces no risk from those targeted terminations. This is classic deceptive journalism designed to stoke fear.
Gil is an outspoken anti-Trump political activist and vice president of UAW Local 4811. She rallies against the administration’s elimination of wasteful NIH grants tied to DEI initiatives, gender ideology and low-merit projects, while supporting the very programs Trump conservatives seek to reform or cut for better scientific merit, efficiency and taxpayer value.
EdSource, a left-leaning education outlet, frames legitimate federal realignment as an attack on “science” to justify a $12 billion California bond bailout. Foster City residents deserve honest reporting, not activist propaganda that misleads on funding realities and ignores valid reasons for reform.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Sheakley, but if reprinting and promotion of an EdSource article exemplifies the DJ’s irresponsible journalism ethics, then I’d hate to hear what you call the reprinting and promotion of Associated Press articles in the DJ. Just about all AP political articles are from anti-Trump AP hacks. We know we can’t trust AP and now we know we can’t trust EdSource. Perhaps EdSource is potentially reaping the rewards of this $12 billion California bond bailout and they’re only looking for more money to spread their left-leaning messages? Meanwhile, we all know this $12 billion bailout is a scam. Vote NO.
