Editor,

Leadership matters, especially in an office responsible for elections, public records and taxpayer-facing services.

Thanks for your letter, Ms. Porter. Leadership does matter, but they must be with leaders who are qualified to lead. Canepa has no experience whatsoever in assessing, county clerking, and recording. Seems to me the problem is Canepa spending years “working” in public view because if Canepa is wasting so much time in public view, who’s doing the work? People who are qualified and as such, why would we need Canepa? Enough said. Vote for a candidate who is qualified to lead. Irizarry.

Virginia - are you saying that "working in public view, engaging directly with residents and operating under scrutiny" qualifies one to run a massive department? We have already thousands of those working in our governments, including the DMV. By your thinking any one of those would qualify for the job? Every time Canepa was scrutinized he threw a hissy-fit, just the kind of person we need to run that agency.
