As America celebrates its 250th birthday this year, it is a moment to reflect on the state of our republic.

I’m barely old enough to remember the 1976 bicentennial celebration, but I do recall a swelling sense of pride. I have memories of my Uncle Marty dressed as Uncle Sam, selling a patriotic-themed children’s coloring book he created called “Americolor.” It was also a presidential election year and I watched as my then-Republican mother shed a tear for Gerald Ford’s loss, while my Democratic father cheered Jimmy Carter’s victory. Yet I sensed being American was more important to identity with than being a Democrat or Republican. Country over party.

True, Gallup found patriotism at an all time low. Same poll found the collapse is almost entirely among Democrats. Nice work. Praising the US Men's World Cup team, then pivot to "red vs blue" drivel. Nice work. "E pluribus unum" means out of many, one. It does not mean out of many, only my party. Nice work.

Hilarious. Thanks for your guest perspective, Mr. Mullin, but why should we believe your words about patriotism? You’ve shown us who you are via your actions. For instance, you didn’t show up at the SOTU. You put the welfare of criminals and terrorists over the American people, failing to honor your oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution. And of course, not only do you want to punish American citizens, but even more so, biological females, choosing to promote biological males competing against biological females. Let me know if you need more examples.

Meanwhile, congratulations to our (yes, our) great President Trump for leading the way in showing what patriotism means. If you can’t stop politicizing patriotism, I’d suggest you do as the SOTU and sit this one out, too. Have a Trump-tastic day!
