Editor,
In response to Mr. Swaminathan’s letter on this subject, it might be appropriate to remind the wise saying that “everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not to their own facts.”
Editor,
In response to Mr. Swaminathan’s letter on this subject, it might be appropriate to remind the wise saying that “everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not to their own facts.”
The letter makes up facts — but also defies logic and common sense.
Indeed, if “Obama deal limited enrichment to 3.67%,” how come Iran enriched its Uranium to 60%?
Inspections: JCPOA established a regime of “managed access,” but this system required approval processes and waiting periods that often allowed for a monthslong delays before access to suspect sites was granted, and excluded access to “military” sites. In 2021, Iran suspended all monitoring inspections altogether.
Money: Obama released ~ $150B in cash to Iran, which was immediately used strictly for military purposes and propping up its proxies — Hamas, Hezbollah, Yemen Houthis. The current MOU simply states that the Gulf nations are willing to invest up to $300B into Iran’s infrastructure, if Iran gives up its nuclear ambitions.
Hormuz: MOU does not mention any wishes of Iran or anyone else to charge any fees for passing the straight. Iran did and does voice this wish — but such a thing is forbidden by international laws, and therefore cannot, and will not be part of any serious discussion.
Finally — MOU is not a “deal.” All it does is reveal to the world what Iran’s real ambitions are: destruction of both “small” and “big” Satan’s and total control of the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
