This could be one of the coolest summers of our children’s lives. That is a shocking fact. Yet here we are. All across the planet, climate change is super charging weather patterns, increasing extreme conditions with deadlier hurricanes, tornadoes and intense heat waves. It’s easier to fry an egg on pavement than walk on it. Living in the Bay Area, you may think we’re not affected because we live between two natural air conditioners: the Bay and Pacific Ocean. But more than 20 states reported temperatures above 100 degrees over July 4, killing over 20 people. Let’s get active! There are things we can do. At the end of the month, I’m traveling with 12 other people from San Mateo County to Washington to attend Citizens’ Climate Lobby’s Conference and Lobby Day. We’ll meet with the offices of Sens. Padilla, Schiff and representatives. Over 800 CCL members will have more than 400 meetings with members of Congress. We show up as citizen lobbyists — the best money can’t buy — to talk about practical solutions. We’ll ask about their plans for expanding clean, affordable energy to help stabilize electricity prices. We’ll discuss modernizing permitting to allow new power generation and transmission projects to come online faster and help meet energy needs. At Citizens’ Climate Lobby, we are united in our belief that protecting children from preventable harm matters and that families deserve affordable energy. Here we go again… Hey Ms. Salinger, the headline says “Beat the heat” and yet you note this could be one of the coolest summers of our children’s lives. It’s interesting that climate change results in one of the coolest summers and a few of our hottest summers. No wonder the global warming crowd had to resort to “climate change.” Most of us just call it weather and we expect cases of extreme hot and extreme cold and everything in between.

Please educate us on what these clean, affordable energy sources are. Nuclear energy, one of the greenest forms of energy seems to be taboo for “greenies.” Solar or wind isn’t economically, nor land-feasible, not to mention variable since the sun doesn’t always shine and the wind doesn’t always blow. Fossil fuels remain the best and most economical form of energy. Ask developing and developed nations where their major form of energy comes from.

And on the irony/hypocrisy front... Why is the CCL sending 800 members to Congress? How much extra carbon is being emitted? And what is this Citizens’ Climate Lobby doing to curtail the 400+ private jets and who knows how many public jets that are used by climate conference attendees? Citizens' Climate Lobby, heal thyself first from carbon emissions and then climate conference attendee carbon emissions. Has nobody heard of Zoom?

If these activists were to walk or bicycle to DC, I would give them a bit of credit for their efforts. Now they are meeting with these two blowhard senators and a bunch of overpaid staffers. Exactly what are they trying to accomplish other than another shindig at taxpayer or other sucker expense? Hey Climate Lobby, even the UN has already dismissed the warming trend that you still hang your hats on? Are you just wallowing in an elusive goal that cannot be realistically achieved?
