President Donald Trump has unveiled an "AI Action Plan" shaped by Silicon Valley tech leaders who supported his campaign. The plan, disclosed Wednesday, focuses on boosting artificial intelligence technology exports, streamlining permits for energy-intensive data centers and exporting American AI around the world. Trump gave his tech advisers six months to come up with new AI policies after revoking President Joe Biden's AI guardrails on his first day in office. Opponents of the Republican president's AI agenda argue it prioritizes the needs of Big Tech over people. More than 100 groups have come together to sign a resolution calling for a "People's AI Action Plan" that would preserve safeguards for the American public.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he won't collect fees from litigation against the drugmakers of a cervical cancer vaccine if he's confirmed as the nation's health secretary. Kennedy has faced scrutiny from senators at his confirmation hearings over his plan to profit from vaccine lawsuits while serving as health secretary. Kennedy said he'd amend his ethics disclosure after senators including Democrat Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts raised concerns about his financial arrangement with the law firm representing patients who are claiming injuries from the vaccines. Kennedy stopped short of making other commitments, refusing to promise he would not engage in lobbying the U.S. Health and Human Services agency immediately after his term ends.

California saw its biggest increase in registered lobbyists last session since at least 2011, when a change in the law caused the number to more than double. According to the Secretary of State's office, there was a roughly 10% increase in the number of lobbyists who registered for the 2023-24 session compared to the previous one. Longtime lobbyist Chris Micheli sees it as the result of high turnover in the Legislature — leading to an "exodus of legislative staff" who went into advocacy. In what was dubbed the Great Resignation of 2022, 26 members opted out of seeking re-election, in addition to the seven who reached term limits.
