While foreign aid is largely seen as an investment that does not benefit constituents, the funding that has been poured into so-called “defense” against foreign states brings forth a contradictory image of how the United States engages in international relations.
The Trump administration’s offensive in Iran, a joint action that has resulted in the destruction of infrastructure and countless casualties, has not only impacted innocent civilians in the Middle East, but has diverted taxpayer dollars away from initiatives that could’ve helped constituents. These misguided federal actions have impacted countless people and that is why I urge our senators and CA-15 Rep. Mullin to cosponsor bills like the Block the Bombs Act so that civilians both at home and abroad are not affected by blind violence.
Where bombs and bullets have taken innocent lives and siphoned funds away from the United States, helping communities that are in severe poverty and face countless threats to their lives is a way to not only carry out our foundational duty as fellow human beings, but to also gain long-term investment benefits with more involvement in workforces and the stabilization of states.
The Borgen Project, a nonprofit organization that focuses on mitigating and minimizing global poverty, emphasizes how solutions to uplifting communities can be easy if prioritized, especially through resources like foreign aid.

Thanks for your letter, Arshia, but I’d consider it more beneficial if foreign aid from the US were used domestically to alleviate poverty and help vulnerable communities across America, first. As for foreign aid, feel free to get other countries, billionaires, millionaires, and regular folks to contribute to the Borgen Project. Let’s see if there’s any motivation before providing US aid.
