A man was fatally struck by a truck he was trying to chase on foot in Redwood City after it had allegedly sideswiped the vehicle he was in Tuesday evening, police said.
The hit-and-run collision was reported at 7:41 p.m. on the 800 block of Woodside Road.
The man was a passenger in a Jeep traveling south on Hudson Street when the car was hit on the side by a Ford pickup truck. The driver of the Jeep pulled over, while the Ford continued west on Woodside Road, according to Redwood City police.
The passenger then left the Jeep to try to stop the pickup truck and was hit by the truck. Fire and medical personnel provided aid, but the man died at the scene. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office had not released the man’s identity as of Wednesday.
Following a search with drones, Redwood City police found the suspect car, which they seized as evidence. The vehicle’s driver was not in the car and remains at large.
Investigators have found witnesses and surveillance video related to the case. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Redwood City Police Department at (650) 780-7100.
