When you widen 101 it is not surprising that more people will drive. TDM programs are great, but they will not be successful if we simultaneously add highway capacity, encouraging more people to drive.

Also, you can take advantage of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition's free bike valet at Levi's. Get off at Lawrence and take a short ride on the San Tomas Aquino Trail. Much faster than taking VTA.

The bike lanes are Class II; they are not protected. Protected bike lanes, which are safer for kids who bike, require more room and would have required removal of parking on both sides of the streets. This is a compromise that doesn't get reported, however.

Yes, thank you Robert Whitehair. There is no reason we should allow polluting appliances to be installed when new technology exists that will keep people healthier.

I think this article missed the larger story here - City Councilperson Rob Newsom voted against renewing a commissioner who was running against him in his current bid for reelection. Many have criticized Mr. Newsom for not recusing himself in the vote. Councilmembers regularly recuse them…
