As CEO of Warm Water Wellness, I have worked alongside many public officials, but few have demonstrated the consistent compassion and follow through that defines Supervisor David Canepa’s leadership. I saw this firsthand during the long, uncertain effort to preserve and reopen the Mickelson Therapy Pool.
For our seniors and neighbors living with disabilities, that pool is not a luxury; it is a lifeline. When its future was in jeopardy, David was our champion. He stood with patients and advocates when it mattered most, holding firm even when the path forward was anything but easy.
The pool’s survival was not inevitable. It required a committed elected leader who truly understood the human necessity of warm water therapy. Without David’s persistence and genuine empathy, this success story for our county might never have happened.
That same spirit is exactly what we need in our next assessor-county clerk-recorder and chief elections officer. This role is about more than technical accuracy; it is about fairness and accessibility. David has proven he will ensure that seniors, veterans and people with disabilities can fully access the property tax relief they deserve.

David sees the human side of policy. He understands that behind every assessment is a resident who deserves to be treated with dignity.
He knows the government should work for everyone, not just those who find it easy to navigate.
San Mateo County would be well served by his leadership in this vital role.
Lindsay may need to be reminded that the Assessor's Office does not report to toe the County Recorder and Elections Officer. Just because he helped with opening a pool, he is now qualified for that office. Lindsay, you are kidding!
Please delete my comment. I am mistaken about the reporting structure. I still do not support Canepa as he is not at all qualified even if he can open pools.
