Probably like all the letters to the editor writers, I too read the letters sent to the Daily Journal. Every so often a well-written, well-researched and intelligent letter is published (present company excluded). In my opinion, Grace Xuereb falls into the category of combining all three attributes.
Especially her research that doesn’t have that air of AI generated or smugness, but of good reasoning based on doing her homework before sending off a letter to either make her point or challenge another writer, be it a letter or opinion piece.
She has done it again with her letter from Tuesday, Feb. 3, challenging Charles Stone’s opinion piece on the shooting death of protester Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis. I’m not criticizing Mr. Stone as he is entitled to his opinion on how he sees events unfold in his world, but Ms. Xuereb’s letter captures more than Mr. Stone’s, in my opinion, narrow view of what transpired during that tragic event. However, I do see how he could arrive at his conclusions as he is a personal injury attorney and, in his profession, needs to frame his presentations to convince judges or juries to see his side of the story.
Thank you Ms. Xuereb for your letter so readers can “see” another view of how Alex Pretti’s death was caused and not trying to create a situation that doesn’t need more escalation based on another writer’s seemingly biased narrative of how things played out that day.
Very well said, Mr. Wackerman. It’s amazing what happens when a narrative is presented objectively as opposed to emotional arguments fueled by cherry-picked facts or outright lies. Fortunately, gaslighting narratives, more so these days, are easily exposed and debunked by ignoring the mainstream media and viewing new media.
