Editor,
When I read this guest perspective by Mark Olbert, I kept wondering what is it exactly that America ever promised to anyone?
Thinking through this issue I realized that America did not actually promise anything to anyone, other than the rights guaranteed by our Constitution. Nothing else.
It is then up to us, individuals, to use these rights to make our society prosperous, tolerant and just.
History shows that these traits are achieved only by societies which accept meritocracy, free market and individual responsibility for one’s actions and results — as their guiding principles.
This is what America used to be built on — not on any “promises” from anywhere of anyone.
Mr. Olbert’s “perspective” attempts to distract from these principles by replacing them with complains about the current administration — conveniently forgetting that it was democratically elected.
This is how the majority of Americans decided to exercise their voting rights and did so not just once — twice.
Just a humble reminder.
Does Mr. Olbert really think that his assertion that “the current wannabe despot and his enablers doing things most Americans oppose” would go unchallenged?
Indeed, how does Mr. Olbert in San Carlos know what “most Americans oppose”?
Really.
Mr. Olbert certainly has the right to express his own opinion — but speaking for “most Americans” requires audacity only a true demagogue can possess.
Did Mr. Olbert ever look up the definition of “demagogue” before submitting his opinion pieces for publication?

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Fichtenholz. I’m sure most of our dear readers are well aware of Mr. Olbert repeating Democrat talking points early and often. Woe to you if you ask Mr. Olbert a question because Democrats haven’t provided an answer key. To wit, Mr. Olbert cannot explain why Democrats in the SOTU speech aren’t willing to stand for law and order or why Democrats hate Trump more than they love America. Fortunately, a little bit of common sense and logic easily topples any of Mr. Olbert’s (and others afflicted with TDS) houses of cards.
