In South San Francisco’s Old Town neighborhood, families make frequent conversation with each other at school events and parks, musing about their kids’ grades, sports, friendships and other trials and tribulations all too familiar to parents of young kids.

Except parental chatter in the area has become increasingly tinged with stories about health ailments, specifically their kids’ respiratory conditions like severe allergies and asthma.

Great in depth article.

I hope that the Board of the SMCTA and C/CAG consider this history of air pollution in disadvantaged communities when they decide whether to expand US 101 in this neighborhood. Cars and trucks are a primary cause of particulate pollution and contribute to the higher rats of asthma and other health issues in communities adjacent to the highway.

CA Is Burning

Disadvantaged = uneducated third world foreigners whose living habits are not aligned with the USA.

easygerd

These are the county's "Equity Focus Areas" - the reason being the closeness to 101 and the air pollution coming with this. SSF is extra harmed, because it's somewhat shaded by the San Bruno mountains.

And yet, while the county's Democrats always like to use these "most vulnerable" to collect more "healthcare money", in reality they are the ones planning these highway widenings to create "Lexus lanes" along US-101.

County Democrats are planning more Lexus lanes along the intersections of 101/92, 101/84 and 101/380 bringing even more pollution to these "Community of Concerns". Somebody is lacking on the "concerning" part, I guess.
