Editor,

Robert Mueller led a Marine platoon into combat in Vietnam, receiving a Bronze Star for heroism under fire, a Purple Heart and two commendations for valor under fire. As a lawyer he chose to serve for decades as a public servant rather than pursue what would have been a lucrative career in private practice.

Thanks for your letter, Ms. Quirk, but if anything, our (yes, our) great President Trump is working to normalize the idea that character is relevant, not irrelevant, and in that, Trump is very very right. Character doesn’t mean cherry-picking events from one’s past and applying it to their lifetime; character follows one throughout their life and is more important as one nears the end. And that is Mr. Mueller’s failing, especially with his Russian Collusion Delusion witch hunt. Akin to RBG and others afflicted with TDS destroying their credibility and character, trumping everything they did in the past. BTW, wasn’t Dennis Rader of BTK fame a Boy Scout leader and a church council president? We all know how well that turned out. If not, there are numerous documentaries for one’s viewing pleasure.

MissTY: Is it the fact that Trump is a convicted rapist that attracts you so much? How much lower can a man sink, than using force against a woman who doesn’t like him? And for a woman, it is a natural reaction to dislike someone that unattractive, - unless paid handsomely to pretend otherwise.

Agreed, the allegations in “Russia-gate” were unsubstantiated and insignificant. But Mueller’s legacy shows he “looked the other way” when it came to investigating criminal action by the state. He investigated the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, BCCI, also known as “the Bank of Crooks and Criminals,” and its ties to funding international terrorism. The bank was used by Oliver North for Iran-Contra machinations, but Mueller swept it under the rug, thus diverting attention in this matter to the Reagan/Bush administration. His investigation into Manuel Noriega likewise failed to illuminate the dictator’s ties to our intelligence community and its trade in illegal drugs. Mueller’s investigation in the bombing of Pan AM 103 did not pursue the fact that there were military investigators on board that were on their way back to share their findings that Oliver North and company were involved with the terrorist Monzer Al-Kazaar to ship weapons for Iran-Contra. Perhaps those are three of the reasons he was appointed Director of the FBI by George W. Bush in 2001. In 2002, Operation Green Quest was launched to investigate terrorist financing in the wake of 9/11. It included raids in Virginia that linked international terrorists and the Bank Al-Taqua to major political figures including Grover Norquist. Mueller did not pursue these leads (https://spitfirelist.com/for-the-record/ftr-1006-robert-mueller-and-the-subversion-of-operation-green-quest/). Mueller’s legacy, given his selective investigating, makes him less a government watchdog and pursuer of justice than the intelligence community’s “fixer.”

Thank you Ms. Quirk. I fully agree with your statement of this simple and straightforward truth. Those still supporting the draft dodging sexual predator, grifter, and convicted felon are as vicious and depraved as he is. You cannot reach them, as evidenced by the frequent comments on these editorial pages. But the rest of us can fight to restore dignity, the rule of law, and simple human kindness to our struggling democracy. It will take years, but I still believe it can be done.
