Editor,

A big thank you to Davide Crabbe for his excellent explanation of why housing is so expensive in this area. This article should be required reading for every elected official in the Bay Area. While much of the recent legislative focus has been on increasing the supply of housing almost no attention has been given to the forces creating the demand for housing.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Ponty, but perhaps you can propose some solutions. We can increase the supply of housing if we get rid of the requirement for affordable housing. Affordable housing cannot be built affordably because the cost of building continues to escalate, which means the cost of housing will continue to escalate. And why does the cost of housing continue to escalate? Because local and state governments continue to add fees and assessments to home buyers as well as extorting developers for money for pet causes. Until we reign in costs or find solutions, save your letter and submit it over and over again.
