Editor,
When letter writer John Marty (1/6/26) accused Democrats as the party of hypocrisy, perhaps he should look inward.
Donald Trump declared “My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier” during his second inaugural address.
As a “peacemaker” he oversaw military strikes in seven countries and two seas in 2025 alone.
As a “unifier” he is withholding child care, SNAP and energy grants funding from blue states only.
On a Fox News & Friends appearance in 2016, Pete Hegseth warned, “The military’s not gonna follow illegal orders.” Now he’s persecuting U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, a former combat pilot, naval officer and astronaut, for saying the same thing. That takes hypocrisy to a whole new level.
Trump, as the man who “won’t allow illegal drugs into the U.S.”, kidnapped Nicholas Maduro, the president of Venezuela, for trafficking cocaine. Yet he recently pardoned Juan Orlando Hernandez, the former president of Honduras. Hernandez was convicted and jailed for shipping more that 400 tons of cocaine to the United States, yet according to Trump, was “treated unfairly” and was “a victim of political persecution,” an apparently adequate justification for pardoning a convicted felon.
I think we’ve heard that song before, and probably will again if Democrats take control of Congress.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Brenner, regurgitating fake news and lies from Democrat talking points. I think we’ve heard that song before. Considering you’ve fallen on the wrong side of just about every hoax perpetrated by Democrats I’m not sure we can take your words to heart. Sadly, you (and others) don’t seem to understand repeating fake news and lies undermines your credibility, on any subject. You should appreciate the fact that our (yes, our) great President Trump is the greatest president in our lifetimes, twice, and a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Perhaps a multiple winner in the near future. We’re still not tired of winning.
