Hey David - with respect to Venezuela - have you even kept up with the developments there? Sorry to burst your bubble but Trump's strategy appears to be working, especially for the Venezuelans. Hundreds of political prisoners are being released, their oil is now being sold on the world market and will benefit the economy of Venezuela instead of their elites. Venezuelans are also going back from all over the world to the country that has not been safe for them for decades. Now, without a drastic regime change, could you have thought of a better outcome? Yes, Cuba and Nicaragua are next and their populations cannot wait to see their corrupt and inept leaders thrown out. Mr. Kristofferson should stick with his own expertise instead of commenting on geopolitics that he picks up from the chicken-littles at MSNBC.
Thank you Mr. Nakamura for recognizing the excellent points made by Mr. Kristofferson. We are talking peace but threatening war. What we are doing in the world is known by other countries as exemplified by the link he gave to the speech in Davos by Canadian PM Carney. It looks like a victory in Venezuela, but don’t hand up the “Mission Accomplished” banner yet. Venezuela nationalized its oil fields, like Saudi Arabia and other countries, and can sell it on the open market to anyone it wishes in theory. We killed nearly a hundred people in international waters without a judge or jury. Hijacking a ship at sand stealing its cargo is piracy. There are laws against that. And blockading a country is an act of war. Mr. Kristofferson is correct to point out we declared we’re moving away from a rules-based order to a US order. The veteran economist, educator and author Michael Hudson lays it all out in his blog posts. Here is an example: https://michael-hudson.com/2026/01/the-return-of-gunboat-economics/.
