Editor,

I was very dismayed by Scott Abramson’s Feb. 4 letter “San Mateo school walkout, budding hypocrites” criticizing  the students in the massive walkout Jan. 30 as “budding self-righteous social warriors.” Mr. Abramson and those who support the extreme actions by ICE and the Trump administration in the name of “going after the worst of the worst” somehow love to accuse those of us with compassion and support for our noncriminal immigrant neighbors and community members in this country as being also in support of violent, murderers and rapists. This is completely absurd and disingenuous. In contrast, I was very happy and comforted to read Victor Silva’s Feb. 17 letter “In solidarity with students.”

By "noncriminal immigrant neighbors" I assume you mean those who came here legally without violating our immigration laws? Looks like we are all in agreement then Linda!

Hilarious. Folks, here we have an example of a TDS tactic in irrationally rationalizing actions unbecoming of America. Ms. Lara, twice, insists that these students and adults in the walkout have compassion and support for noncriminal immigrant neighbors and community members. Yet Ms. Lara conveniently forgets that those who’ve crossed our borders illegally are criminals. Hey Ms. Lara, noncriminal immigrant neighbors and community members who have come into our country legally have nothing to fear. Those fine citizens don’t need misled and misinformed students to walk out on their behalf.

I would hope that Ms. Lara, or any adults in the room, would educate everyone attending the non-patriotic walkout of the folly of their support of criminals and terrorists over the American people. These anti-ICE walkouts are an embarrassment, especially for those who encourage them as well as attempting to irrationally rationalize them. There’s a reason President Trump was elected, twice, to Make America Great Again, Again. And speaking of President Trump, how about his closing remarks at last night’s SOTU speech,

“The revolution that began in 1776 has not ended. It still continues because the flame of liberty and independence still burns in the heart of every American patriot, and our future will be bigger, better, brighter, bolder, and more glorious than ever before. Thank you. God bless you and God bless America.”

We can only hope that those students and adults who have wandered off the path will find their way back to becoming American patriots in supporting the America we love. BTW, Ms. Lara, were you proud of the sit-on-their-hands behavior of many Democrats during the SOTU? These Democrats showed their true colors and it is not for America or her people. Akin to adults promoting student walkouts to put the welfare of criminals and terrorists over the American people.

Linda those students who you are so proud of are protesting ICE and had they been asked why, they would have had no idea, they were for a day off from school. You and these brain washed students need to be informed and should be protesting against the democrat street agitators. Had the street agitators protested lawfully and civilly, and had they not blocked streets, or rammed ICE vehicles or thrown rocks, NO deaths would have occurred. It's called "cause and effect".

Linda sounds like a bored empty-nester. It does not take much for her to get exited.

I have heard it said by university professors that students entering college now as freshman are often times about 10 years behind. Antics like these marches, and the associated programming and indoctrination certainly don't help to develop mature thinking and judgment ability necessary in adult life. Thank you to all the writers above for thier common sense comments. And particularly the obvious comments, said many times before. .......there is a huge difference between illegal and legal immigration., and it is wrong to support illegal immigrants, in any way, other than to usher them out of America. History shows countries/cavillations can't survive without law and order.

Lou - in case anyone wonders why the college graduates cannot get a decent paying job and go back to living with their parents? "Antics like these marches, and the associated programming and indoctrination certainly don't help to develop mature thinking and judgment ability necessary in adult life." The very same parents who think that a walk out is constructive and patriotic, are now paying, and will be paying, that price. Foolish and superficial.

Absolutely terrific letter Lara. Keep 'em coming.

Dirk van Ulden

Yes Mike, Linda is in on the dumbing of America.

Thank you, Ms. Lara. You put it so well! So many of us support you, and stand with you and your family in speaking out against the vicious acts of this administration. When you are attacked for teaching your children to be kind and support their neighbors and those less fortunate, it says more about the attackers than you.

GenZ was the first generation to not cognitively out perform their parents - and the trend is going to continue downward at an exponential rate as learning goes further towards the AI rabbit hole. The kids are mentally and spiritually "cooked".
