Editor,

In California, a transformative wave is rising with the arrival of bill AB 2494. This initiative seeks to shift the focus from logging to restoration in our state-managed forests.

Jennifer - for once we are on the same page. Some time ago a lecturer at UC Berkeley wrote in my alumni publication a detailed article that apparently inspired this law. I forgot her name, but the main point was that the Forest Service was more destructive than they realized and that they should be consulting with our natives population. They know more about forest management than those of us who are relative, although well meaning, newcomers. Prescribed burns and invasive species removal are key. Long overdue, they are now integrated in our forest management practices. Let's hope that this law is codified.

CA Is Burning

Well, isn't that a universal problem, the government thinking they know what's best for mankind and our earth?
