Foster City will again postpone the Fourth of July fireworks show in 2026 due to ongoing construction of the new Foster City Community Center in Leo Ryan Park, the city announced Thursday.
However, the Peninsula Celebration Association, that puts on the Fourth of July festivities for the city of Redwood City, will be putting on a fireworks show 9:30 p.m. at the Port of Redwood City. Last year, the port had a drone show instead.
In Foster City, a variety of daytime events to celebrate the holiday will still take place in and around Leo Ryan Park on Saturday, July 4 — including the Rotary Club pancake breakfast, live music performances, and Family & Dog Parade — but programming will end at 4 p.m., hours prior to the traditional nighttime fireworks display over the lagoon, according to the city.
Given construction activity is expected to continue in the weeks leading up to July 4 and thereafter, inadequate space will be available to safely accommodate the large crowds that typically congregate in the evening hours to enjoy the fireworks show. This is the second consecutive year that construction of the Community Center has caused the city to suspend the fireworks show, according to the city. The new facility is anticipated to open in the summer of 2026.
In Redwood City, however, after a day of celebration, including the long-standing annual parade beginning at 10 a.m., visitors can head over to the Port of Redwood City in the evening for a drone show starting at 9:30 p.m.
The idea for a holiday celebration in Redwood City began in 1939 and the Peninsula Celebration Association was launched. It included a carnival with a rodeo in Redwood City, then later a parade came to be. The land where the rodeo took place was sold, with the proceeds financing the Fourth of July Celebration that consists of a parade, festival, fireworks and the pageant. This year’s festivities begin in 70 days from Friday.
