Editor,
In protest of the ongoing damage President Trump is causing to our country, I will not be attending his State of the Union address this year in person.
Trump has brought shame to our nation’s highest office. He is a convicted criminal, an authoritarian election denier and an insurrectionist who has been the most destructive president in our nation’s history. He’s assaulting our democracy by threatening to nationalize elections while interfering with state and local administration.
Rather than offering a serious, good-faith report of the pressing issues confronting the nation, Trump will use this sacred occasion for self-promotion and turn it into a political spectacle where he incites division.
Time and again, this president has proven to be an embarrassment on the international stage. He is openly racist in his rhetoric, and someone who views public office as an opportunity to enrich himself, his family and his billionaire friends. I cannot pay respect to someone who undermines democratic norms, erodes the rule of law, and treats the presidency as a vehicle for his personal gain rather than public service.
Instead, I will attend the people’s rally with fellow Democrats to raise awareness about how Trump’s administration is inflicting harm on working families across America with disastrous cuts to health care, an inhumane approach to immigration and direct threats to voting rights. We must restore balance to ensure that Congress can act as a strong check on any president who wishes to act like a dictator.

Hilarious. Mr. Mullin is boycotting the SOTU and is giving us easily debunked Democrat talking points as to why he is doing so. But don’t worry. We haven’t forgotten Mullin’s failures as a Congressman. For instance, let’s not forget Mr. Mullin voted against the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, essentially voting to increase taxes on everyone, considerably. Let’s not forget Mullin voted against the Laken Riley Act, choosing to promote biological males competing against biological females. Let’s not forget Mullin voted against the SAVE Act, essentially opting to undermine free and fair elections. (I hear Somalia has implemented Voter ID. Yes, Somalia.)
Hey Mr. Mullin, you don’t need to give us any reason. Many of us don’t care if you don’t show up at the SOTU since you’ve been against the American people on every major issue. If you’re not going to honor your oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution I would hope that not only do you not show up at the SOTU but that you resign as a U.S. Representative. Thank you for your attention to this matter. And have fun at your echo chamber.
Stunning and brave, Kevin. Of course you wouldn't want to be forced to decide whether to politely clap for a child with cancer or anything like that.
Kevin - not only is your letter chock full of lies, you seem to forget that you are also supposed to speak up for Trump supporters who are unfortunately unrepresented in your district. But, in your myopic mind we don't matter. The little respect that I had for you before is now completely out the window. Please go ahead and attend your silly, childish rally with your sycophants who will never challenge you.
