Here is a song to listen to that many of you may be familiar with. I am more familiar with the Tom Petty version but more recently I have enjoyed the Johnny Cash version. I would imagine other artists have and most likely will sing this song. It might even be a good fit for the upcoming Super Bowl!
The song is titled “I won’t back down” and seems quite appropriate for the times we are in. I could not help but think of Minnesota when listening to it.
Protests need to be as peaceful as possible to be effective. Martin Luther King and many other famous (and not famous) people demonstrated this time and time again.
Well written, Mr. Thom. Supporters of the U.S. Constitution, ICE, and law and order should not back down to paid anti-ICE activists resorting to violence to bully American citizens in ignoring our founding principles. Go ICE. Don’t back down. BTW, it is reported that Democrat Governor Spanberger is set to release an invader accused of strangling an 8 month-old baby instead of handing him over to ICE. Are these anti-ICE protesters, violent or not, proud of protecting these types of people?
Mr. Thom, I couldn’t agree with you more. MLK and Gandhi used militant nonviolence in the face of physical violence to achieve what they did, similar to what is happening in Minnesota and other American cities now. Protest marches may not be the best method for dissent, the threat of planted agents and agitated counter-protesters being examples of the negatives, but the Tom Petty song would be a good choice. I also recommend a song from the Hamilton musical and the Hamilton Mixtape version, “Immigrants (We get the job done).” Because immigrants are not the cause of our problems today.
