In last Friday’s edition a survey of a tiny sample of 280 Redwood City’s 82,000+ residents was reported “Survey: Redwood City engages inclusive community,” an amazingly small sample, equivalent to .0003% of all of the residents.
I would hope that the National Research Center can justify their results with such small samples by sharing the numbers of residents (not percentages) by age, housing location, occupation, gender, ethnicity, income, education, political affiliation, years living in RC, mobility, housing type, etc., etc.
I look forward to learning this information, as should the City Council and the 82,000+ citizens of RWC.
P.S. Was the survey a written or interview and in what language(s)?
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Arum. In the article, we’re lucky the reporter revealed the survey sample size to be 280 people. You are correct to question the results of the survey because these days, anyone with ulterior motives pushing a desired narrative will cite a survey, no matter how skewed, assuming everyone will accept the results regardless of how flawed the survey is. You would think there would be standards when reporting results from surveys, such as your cited statistics, but these days, that’s not the goal – pushing a desired narrative is. I wonder who commissioned the survey.
