A 31-year-old Australian tourist and professional race car driver who killed two individuals in an oncoming car while accidentally driving on the wrong side of the road pleaded no contest to two counts of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter last Friday, San Mateo County Deputy District Attorney Shin-Me Chang said.
The man, Luke Nardini, faces up to nine months in jail and his sentencing will be held Oct. 25, Chang said.
Nardini was driving on Highway 84 on Sept. 1, 2023, when he allegedly merged into the westbound lane for a road closure, continued to drive eastbound, and allegedly forget to move back to the right side of the road after the closure. He then collided with an oncoming car, allegedly killing two 80-year-old La Honda residents sitting in the rear seat.
