Editor,

It is truly regrettable that the San Mateo City Council kowtowed to the bicycle cult and hosed the residents of North Central by voting to retain the dangerous and little used bicycle lane on North Humboldt Street, that displaced 200 parking spots. The council hid behind the smokescreen of a potential one-way street fantasy, much like the illusory alternative parking they had promised.

"The Avid American Cyclists" who argues against bike lanes? Are these guys for real or are they merely "Corporate Shills acting for the Man"?

Let's find out.

Facts:

- There is not one person driving a car that likes driving behind slow children bicycles - especially not in America.

- There is not one person on a bicycle who like "sharing the road" with 6,000lbs vehicles.

- Only low-character individuals would oppose children riding bicycles in safe bike lanes.

So who are these people, who constantly argue against safety? Who is really opposing bike lanes for children?

The answer is simple. 'Low-character' is definitely part of it, but also let's also follow the money. These are most likely "Influence Peddlers" or "Corporate Shills".

We know the combination of automotive and fossil industries sent thousands of lobbyists to Washington DC and hundreds more to Gavin Newsom and his Democrats in Sacramento. And there is plenty of more money, where that are coming from. The "YIMBY" movement, the "VISION ZERO" network, even the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition are deeply in the pocket of 'Corporate Interest'. They are the once sending out "influence peddlers" to argue the opposite of what research and common sense would dictate.

If 75% of North Central residents support the bike lanes, why are the bike lane/safety supporters the "cult"? A cult is a small group. Wouldn't it be better to describe the much smaller "street parking is my parking" crowd the cult?
