Museum gotta see 'um

The MoAD exhibition reveals the artist’s perspective on two great American art movements: The Hudson River School and Abstract Expressionism. These paintings reflect Mayhew’s visual recollections of landscapes consisting of vivid colors and imagery. His unique style captures the improvisational nature of jazz, the mood-evoking use of colors from his Native American heritage and the technical mastering of art that he obtained from his academic education and from working with notable artists.

The Museum of the African Diaspora, located at 685 Mission St., San Francisco, can be reached from the Peninsula by taking Caltrain to the SF station and hopping a bus for the short ride to the museum. The remarkable "Face of MoAD,” which can best be seen from across Mission Street before entering the museum, is a three-story high photomosaic composed of over 2,100 individual images and stories from throughout the Diaspora. MoAD is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
