It’s full speed ahead for a sweeping housing and commercial development proposed to transform BART land at the Millbrae train station, following officials blessing the divisive project.

The Millbrae City Council voted 3-2, with Mayor Gina Papan and Councilman Wayne Lee dissenting, to narrowly approve the Gateway at Millbrae Station during a meeting spanning into the early hours of Wednesday, March 14.

Happiness is being in the real estate/apartment building business and having a majority of councilmembers in your pocket.

Millbrae’s “Leadership” has a long standing record of failing to address the need for an economically sustainable city.
This approval, supported by outsiders and opposed by most Millbrae residents, continues the tradition of failed leadership in Millbrae.
The city will declare bankruptcy during the next recession.

Support new housing and retail development, which bring sales taxes, new young residents who spend money, and property taxes with a 2018 tax basis, or complain that the city isn't doing anything to become economically sustainable. You can't have it both ways.

Fantastic news! Kudos to Millbrae. Hopefully other cities on the Peninsula will follow their example.

The Deveopers aka sharks see the opportunity to make money in this politcal climate for new housing. When the dust settles when the recession finally comes, Milbrae residents and the surrounding communities will be left with the added problems to deal with. This project and others like it does not address the overall burden the new business and residents will cause to an already over tapped infrastructure.

When the recession comes, Millbrae's woes will have little to do with new residents. Longterm homeowners have saddled us with decades of infrastructure neglect and one of the worst pension deficits in the state. We can either grow or circle the drain.
