Moises Alonzo-Reyes was on his way home from work on a hot San Mateo evening back in May and decided to stop for some cool frozen yogurt — a decision that would lead to a $1 million Scratchers win.
“I bought the Million Dollar Multiplier ticket at La Raza Market. I scratched the ticket in the store and saw that I won. I couldn’t believe it,” Alonzo-Reyes said when asked about winning the top prize for that Scratchers game.
Alonzo-Reyes says he plans on using his money to move back home to Central America. He hasn’t seen his family in more than 12 years, according to the California Lottery.
The ticket was purchased at La Raza Market, at 380 N. Ellsworth Ave. in San Mateo, which will receive a $5,000 retailer bonus.
