At 11:49 a.m., crews from the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department were called to the rear of the building and found the chemical container releasing vapor. It was upgraded to a Hazardous Materials response, which included the San Mateo County Hazardous Materials Team, as well as representatives from the Office of Emergency Services and Environmental Health, according to San Mateo fire officials.
Officials identified the chemicals and mitigated the hazard. Several individuals were evaluated at the scene by emergency personnel and Sutter Health officials said a small number of employees were evacuated as a precaution.
The inadvertent mixing of chemicals came during routine maintenance work, Sutter officials said.
