Editor,
I received predictably rude and misguided criticism of my letter of Nov. 19 (“Determined resistance”). I respond by clarifying and expanding on some of my points about Trump and Trump voters.
Editor,
I received predictably rude and misguided criticism of my letter of Nov. 19 (“Determined resistance”). I respond by clarifying and expanding on some of my points about Trump and Trump voters.
• Deluded/ignorant: Inflation is back to target levels and was at least partly due to factors beyond Biden’s control. Why think Trump will be an improvement? His planned economic policy is a potential nightmare. There is a lack of awareness of how tariffs work and that they will be inflationary, as will deporting millions of people who are working, paying taxes, and contributing to the economy.
• Xenophobic: Trump talks as though most immigrants are murderers and rapists, and his statement that they poison the blood of our country is reprehensibly racist, straight out of Hitler’s propaganda. But statistics indicate that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than U.S. citizens. They just want a better life and take jobs no one else wants. Who will pick the crops if there’s a mass deportation?
• Naive and gullible: Trump may give the concerns of everyday Americans lip service, but he only cares about himself and power.
• Un-American: Trump is dismissive of basic principles of our country: the system of checks and balances, freedom of the press, separation of church and state, and the Constitution itself (wanting to”terminate” it).
• Damage from his first administration (to continue in his second administration): A rise in hatefulness, divisiveness, and bigotry against people of color and LGBTQ. Denial of climate change. Putting business interests ahead of any safety or environmental concerns. Everyone’s grandchildren will be screwed.
• Additional damage from his upcoming administration: Project 2025 should set off alarm bells.

Democrats had their chance and now it's Republicans turn. Perhaps you should hold your fire until we see what Trump actually does.
Thank you, Mr. Wright, for reminding us that there are still some sane individuals who see the soon-to-be Occupant for the crooked, narcissistic, intellectually and morally bankrupt traitor that he is. The usual suspects on this thread will attack me, as they have you, for pointing out the lies, greed, and corruption of the upcoming administration - look at the "Cabinet" picks - and point to the price of eggs and the huge problem of transgender athletes robbing multitudes of women (perhaps 5?) of fair competition. Of course, those millions of women and girls without reproductive rights? No problem! The only bright spot here is that, if the Occupant manages to overturn birthright citizenship, his progeny will have to be deported, along with his latest wife and her chain migration parents. Perhaps his buddy Putin will take them in. The $2billion Saudi bribe could help grease the wheels there. We are in for the fight of our lives to preserve democracy. With a felon in the White house, what can go wrong?
SMpool - Are you telling me that 74 million voters are insane? I believe Crosby, Stills and Nash had a song about that. We need to come up with a new denomination for you and Brian: "Chicken-Little".
Not necessarily directly insane, Dirk, but at least careless, stupid, and slow learners. Don’t they understand what Trump is up to, if given another chance, or don’t they care about what will happen to the country? It will be a way too costly experiment! Is it even possible to find anyone more incompetent? Just look at his appointments! Doesn’t that tell us something? My goodness, wake up, man!
Yes Jorg - now Benioff, Zuckerberg, Bezos and Musk are careless, stupid and slow learners. Last i looked they seem to be the captains of their respective industries. Imagine what they could do or could have done if they were not careless, stupid and slow learners. Perhaps you can send them a wake up notice.
Dirk: Didn't you understand that I meant those voting for Trump, - not a couple of individuals too wealthy for their own good?
Good morning, Jorg
The more than 77 million Americans who voted for Donald Trump are not careless, stupid or slow learners just because they disagree with your politics. Why would they support the candidate you favor? When asked what could be done differently to correct the disasters of the Joe Biden presidency, your candidate said that nothing comes to mind.
Are there some slow learners in the American electorate? Yes... those would be your comrades on the far left who are glorifying a shooter accused of gunning down and killing a health care industry CEO to protest health care business practices... and at the same time... those slow learners are vilifying a Marine veteran who acted to save subway riders from imminent harm. Oh, yes... those slow learners have been quick to toss identity politics into the mix.
You wrote to Dirk, "My goodness, wake up, man!" You might want to heed your own advice.
Ray: Just tossing me carelessly over to the left side, and accusing me of opinions I have never entertained, shows how little you know me! No surprise, really!
Jorg...
Beg pardon. You are not being carelessly tossed to the left. After the innumerable times you have sung the praises of the far left spoxes on MSNBC, you have clearly and willingly joined arms with them.
If that is not true, could you give us your take on the person who shot and killed a health care CEO in NY, and the person acquitted of criminality due to acting in self-defense on a NY subway?
"far left spoxes on MSNBC", Ray? What utter nonsense! They are as reasonable, factual and middle-ground as anyone, - whether you understand that, or are honest enough to admit it, or not. And re those incidents you mentioned, - I have no opinion and don't know enough about it. Why do you expect me to have an opinion about everything you drag up?
Jorg...
Do you really believe MSNBC is "reasonable, factual and middle-ground"?
Wow.
You have no opinion on two stories prominently featured in the news over the past two days and on MSNBC?
Wow. Wow.
Yes, Ray, - I leave such important things to you and other "right" thinking people.
Done and dusted.
You're welcome! We of sound mind must stick together. But for the sake of all of us and this country, I really am hoping the sky doesn't fall (regarding Dirk's comment). We'll see. Fingers crossed.
Brian - your sound mind did not resonate with millions. But, please continue to go over the cliff with your ilk. If the last election was not teaching you anything, you are looking at another 8 to 12 years of having to deal with challenged minds who may not be as intellectually inclined as you are but they will run a better country. Your self-ascribed intellect has failed us, so let us work with the practical, common sense folk. When even Zuckerberg and Bezos are joining our team, you must scratch your head.
Thank you, SMpool, for another rabid leftie serving of hysterical screeching and for reminding us what winning feels like. Delicious. May I have another? Speaking of what can go wrong I’d say your failure to do simple research. Perhaps because it goes against your easily debunked lie, you fail to cite recent articles regarding the injustice of biological men competing against biological women (article links: https://nypost.com/2024/10/23/opinion/un-report-proves-trans-athletes-in-womens-sports-is-a-problem/ and https://nypost.com/2024/10/23/world-news/un-reveals-how-many-female-athletes-have-lost-medals-to-trans-opponents-in-explosive-report/ and the UN report link: https://documents.un.org/doc/undoc/gen/n24/249/94/pdf/n2424994.pdf). Another case of facts getting in the way of your unhinged rants. Have a Trump-tastic day! BTW, I have a nit…you forgot to bring up the hoax insurrection. Aren’t you afraid of getting voted off the rabid leftie island by ignoring it? Or perhaps you’ve done the research and learned the truth.
Thank you for the facts Terence! SMPool comes up with the insane number of 5, when the issue of men/boys invading female sports and spaces affects every woman and girl. And the number is more than 5 girls affected just at a single high school (of which there are several in our area) where a boy plays a girls' sport- girls are cut from teams, denied playing time, lose out on awards, lose their privacy in locker rooms and fear for their safety. If so many women and children weren't hurt by the radical trans ideology, I'd be fine with Dems not understanding the extent of the problem so they keep losing elections.
Ah yes, Mr. Wright being oh, so wrong, yet again. Thanks for your letter and another delicious serving of fake news and lies. You seem to forget that Biden adopted many of Trump’s tariffs and yet, under Trump, inflation didn’t increase. You seem to forget crossing the border illegally is a crime. You seem to forget that if Trump only cared about himself and power and was un-American, how come Trump Made America Great Again? You seem to forget that Obama is known as the Divider-in-Chief. Actually, it seems like you’re forgetting a lot. But that’s to be expected, since you completely forgot about treasonous Biden and his America Last policies. BTW, if you don’t like it here in America why are you still here? It’s because Trump is likely the greatest President in your lifetime – twice.
Being so totally confused, makes it understandable why you don't dare to show us your face, despite numerous friendly invitations for a luncheon got-together. We get it, - and of course, we feel sorry for you.
Mr. Wright: Yes, but don’t forget what a stable genius Trump is, - according to himself, so it must be true!
Remember how he was able to even remember 5 multilettered words a team of psychoanalysts gave him to test his sanity. They were so impressed by his intellect, - according to himself, - so he has every right to brag about it to impress the rest of the world! And impressed they certainly are, - so impressed that they can’t stop laughing!
Folks, this is what winning feels like, with our great(er) President Trump continuing to live rent-free in Jorg’s head. Today, we’re honored with Jorg serving up another delicious serving of Democrat hatred and vitriol though we could do without the sour grapes. Hey Jorg, contrast your rant to Biden, who can’t remember his wife’s name, much less any number of words. And let’s not forget Biden shaking hands with invisible people. Have you seen those videos? Now those are cases of can’t stop laughing.
Hoping Trump has upgraded his vocabulary from 3rd grade to 4th grade for his second term.
That's way too much to expect for someone so intellectually deprived and poorly educated as Trump!
More winning… We have to remember that if Trump were all the things Brian Wright and Jorg are saying about our great President Trump, yet Trump is a multi-billionaire and President, what’s that say about Brian and Jorg? They’re much less intelligent and much less educated than Trump, perhaps newborns. Sounds more like Brian and Jorg are filled with envy. BTW, Jorg, why do you need to meet me in person? Like our (yes, our) President Trump and our friend Not So Common, I’m already living rent-free in your head. Don’t worry about overcrowding, there’s there’s still plenty of empty space up there…up there…up there… Sorry about the echo.
Oh, you are so funny, TY! Your Mom must be so proud of her kid! You even remember to scramble the words in your salad every time you gurgle it up! Or, almost every tome, that is.
TY: That’s one of the funniest things you have come up with: “educated” and “Trump” in the same sentence! Ha! Trump wouldn’t even pass the final English exam I had to go through at the end of elementary school “over there”. Not a chance in the world he could make it! And “over there”, even grading was out of the teacher’s hands and done in secrecy by a team who didn’t know who you were, so no chance for a rich pappa to pay you through something way over your head.
Winning! Another JUNC (Jorg’s Usual Nonsense Conniption) comment. Jorg, to borrow from Dirty Harry, “Yeah, you’re a legend in your own mind.” It's amusing you say Trump wouldn’t pass a final English exam and yet Trump is a multi-billionaire and President. What’s that say about you? Sounds like your English “exam” consisted of “ga ga” and your rich papa paid off the entire team to allow you to pass with only a “ga.” Meanwhile, acting President Trump (since Biden is MIA) is beginning to make countries around the world respect America again. MAGA! Have a blessed day...day...day...! Again, sorry about the echo.
Brian, your ignorance and ideological hate is highlighted by pretending that Trump is the imbecile, while continuing to support and ignore the fact that Joe Biden has dementia. And then I am certain you supported dumb and dumber (Cackling Kamala and Walz). Thanks for digging an even bigger hole than you did in November. BTW, does is matter to you that Biden received $$$$ Millions from China, Ukraine and others? Does it matter that In 2010, Biden provided a eulogy for KKK "exalted cyclops," Democratic West Virginia Senator Robert C. Byrd, who in the 1940s helped recruit new members to his chapter of the KKK?
