When my husband and I were children, our families drove through Baywood to admire the beautiful homes and gardens. As a real estate brochure enthused, “The streetscape of Baywood is nothing short of spectacular with virtually every home a home of great architectural distinction. To drive or walk along the streets of Baywood is to be awed by the authenticity of the architecture, a virtual treasure trove of European storybook homes in garden settings of lush flowers and trees.”

Amazingly, Baywood hasn’t changed much, almost a hundred years later. It still retains its beauty, charm and integrity that enthralled me so much as a child and now as we walk through our neighborhood.

Please keep my home out of your architecture museum. How does one opt-out? Will this be on the ballot like other San Mateo housing restrictions?

You cannot opt out, and this will not be on the ballot. This is being forced on us. Call Jay Kuhre at 650 307 4196. Our numbers are growing now, and we have received many more communications from people who want to fight this with us. Please join us.

The "San Mateo Heritage Alliance" often cites to the "four homes demolished just last year" stat, as a scare tactic to create the impression that people are bulldozing homes left and right. The "Alliance" did not protest any of these other razing because it did not consider them of historic significance.

Completely agree with Laurie. Look what happened to historic El Camino Real here in San Mateo. Shabby with used car lots, junk buildings, street with no trees and down the medium. Tacky food trucks. Looks horrible. We hope you succeed and thank you for doing this.

Historic District are great for downtown and commercial areas. but historic districts are not good for neighborhoods. Private property should remain private, to accommodate the needs of the family who lives there. Our downtown is shared by everyone. My home and everyones home is private property. I purchased all four sides of my property. I do not surrender the rights to any part of my property. But the Alliance maybe successful in forcing this on me and many of my neighbors, but how would you feel if did not want this designation? They can each get an individual designation and respect our rights as we respect their right to get their own designation.

But Laurie says "NRHP listing is honorary and does not come with any restrictions on the property or owners." What a load of you know what........
