I was startled to read that the CARES crisis response program for the coastside was ending. While I am grateful to hear that MCRT will be serving the coastside in this capacity, it isn’t good enough. Having an hour and a half response time (MCRT) instead of a less than 10-minute response time (CARES) can be the difference between life and death for someone dealing with a mental health crisis.
My hope is that San Mateo County steps up to support the life-saving CARES program instead of having the Coastside be ignored yet again as has been the case with many services and initiatives. Save the CARES program!
