A 32-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle 100 feet west of the intersection of Woodside Road and Veterans Boulevard in Redwood City early Monday morning, according to police.
At about 12:11 a.m., Redwood City police officers were called to the location and found the woman lying on the ground, unconscious and without a pulse. Officers began CPR and she was taken to Stanford Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to police.
The driver, who remained on the scene and was cooperative, reported traveling eastbound on Woodside Road toward Highway 101, entering the intersection on a green light, when he heard a loud impact. He then pulled over and discovered he had struck a pedestrian, according to police.
A witness, who had been walking with the pedestrian, told investigators they were crossing Woodside Road southbound from Veterans Boulevard when the collision occurred. The witness stated he had crossed ahead of the pedestrian and, upon turning back, saw her being struck. According to the witness, the pedestrian entered the crosswalk with the signal, and he believed the traffic light had not changed before the collision occurred, according to police.
The driver was determined not to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and voluntarily submitted to a PAS test and blood draw. The vehicle was towed to the Redwood City Police Department as evidence.
This collision remains under active investigation by the Redwood City Police Department. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information is encouraged to contact the Redwood City Police Department Traffic Unit at (650) 780-7100.
