Editor,

Regarding story on Feb. 14, “BART warning of 15 station closures if ballot measure fails.” BART is out of control. Pun not intended. BART has notoriously mismanaged and neglected its duties in operating the system. For many years BART’s Board of Directors and management ignored the massive amount of money we the people were losing to fare evaders. It was only after a huge public outcry BART reported it was losing $30 million per year, but an independent and objective investigation revealed that number to be closer to $60 million per year. And many of those fare evaders were the ones committing the majority of crimes on BART. That’s $60 million dollars a year for many years.

David - thanks for your research and facts. We need to understand that BART has become a giant employment agency which is run by the labor unions. The Board members are also beholden to these unions and will act accordingly. The only way to extract us from that morass is to install a qualified non-political Board and a professional general manager. As it stands now, all decisions are made based on political influence which is resulting in the disaster that the board is facing. In other words, a total revamp of BART's Charter.
