A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the sexual battery of a woman on the San Francisco Bay Trail in Redwood City earlier this week, police said Thursday.
Carlos Garcia Juarez is accused of the attack that was reported at 3:53 p.m. Tuesday on the trail near Uccelli Boulevard. The victim said she was running on the trail when a male suspect approached and asked her for the time and whether she was running alone, according to Redwood City police.
The man then allegedly grabbed the victim before fleeing. The victim described him as wearing an orange sweater, and investigators used a drone to search the area. They eventually found Garcia Juarez, who the victim identified as the suspect, police said.
He was booked into county jail on suspicion of sexual battery and remained in custody as of Thursday on $10,000 bail, according to jail booking logs.
Redwood City police touted their use of the drone as key in making an arrest in the case.
"Much of the trail in Redwood City runs between Highway 101 and the marsh area, making access by vehicle limited. The use of the drone significantly enhanced officers' ability to locate and identify the suspect in this case," police said in a news release.
