As the 50th anniversary of the first human moon landing in July approaches, NASA scientists and engineers at the Ames Research Center in Mountain View are perfecting technology to take the next generation of astronauts to the moon and Mars.
Frank Kamak, chief of the wind tunnel division at NASA Ames Research Center, explains what goes into testing spacecraft at the facility’s signature wind tunnels. About one third of testing at the facility is for NASA, one third of testing is for the military the other third is for commercial industry. NASA charges about $5,000 an hour for use of the facility.
